Visual Studio 2008 and System i Database Access

Posted in [.net], [as400 - ibm i - iseries], [visual studio], [x64] By Dave

If you are upgrading to Visual Studio 2008 and want to use the System i Access for Windows .Net data sources for access to your i, then you have undoubtedly noticed that is does not appear to be an available option.

It does work just fine.  The install for System i Access only installs registry keys for Visual Studio editions up to 2005.  The attached file will add the registry keys needed for VS 2008.

As always, when working with the registry you need to follow a couple of quick rules:

  1. If you do not know what the registry is, please back away from the keyboard
  2. If you do not know how to backup the registry, please refer to the first rule

The registry patch is available on the files tab of the site.

Let me know if you have any issues...
